VP of Engineering (Next, Node, Postgres + AWS)

AppMakersLA is a premier app development agency specializing in building scalable, high-impact software solutions. We are currently seeking a VP of Engineering to lead one of our biggest projects, a rapidly growing social media/entertainment & media software with multi-million dollar ARR.

Responsibilities

• Lead Engineering & Architecture: Own the full technical roadmap and architecture decisions, ensuring scalability, stability, and high performance.
• Hands-On Development: Get your hands dirty with Next.js, Node.js, PostgreSQL, AWS, and work alongside the team to solve complex technical challenges.
• Scale & Optimize Infrastructure: Design and implement best practices for logging, monitoring, reliability, and observability to maintain stability while growing user demand.
• Grow & Manage the Team: Recruit, mentor, and lead engineers while implementing efficient processes to keep the team aligned and productive.
• Balance Product & Tech Debt: Work closely with product and business stakeholders to make informed trade-offs between new features, tech debt, and infrastructure improvements.
• Security & Compliance: Ensure best practices in security, data privacy, and performance optimization at scale.

• Proven experience scaling apps to millions of users and navigating the challenges of high-growth products.
• Full-Stack Expertise: Strong proficiency in Next.js, Node.js, PostgreSQL, AWS, and deep knowledge of the entire web development stack.
• Infrastructure & DevOps Strength: Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, monitoring (Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus, etc.), and logging.
• Hands-on Leadership: You still love coding and debugging, but can also lead and scale engineering teams effectively.
• Start-up Mindset: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment with high ownership and accountability.
• Strong Communication & Collaboration: Able to work closely with product, design, and business teams to drive the best outcomes.
